CHAPTER 3 & 4 ; GETTING TO KNOW CAMPUS & MEMORY , IMPROVING CONCENTRITION AND READING SYSTEM

LET KNOW OUR CAMPUS!

MARA University of  Technology Pahang Campus , Jengka , Pahang

I will share about the facilities , the resources , the buildings and so on . In my campus UiTM Jengka , section has been divided by 3 resources .

3 TYPE OF RESOURCES

AL-BUKHARI LIBRARY :

In 1985, Pahang Darul Makmur was based in Teluk Sisek, Kuantan, and relocated to its permanent campus in Bandar Jengka, Pahang, in 1993. MEMORY , IMPROVING CONCENTRITION & READING SYSTEM

MEMORY LEARNING & IMPROVING !

As a student we need to improve our concentration and memory we need a strategy. So here is the strategy .

What is memory?

  • The accumulation of knowledge over time (Santrock, 2011) or the mind stores and recall information (mental processes/cognition), like computer software.

What is brain ?

  • The brain is the organ , like computer hardware

MEMORY STRATEGIES

  • Memory strategies will help students in their encoding, storing, and retrieving the information(helps to remember and recall).

3 TYPES OF MEMORY
1) Sensory memory
Numerous incoming information form 5 sense will be stored in sensory memory for an instant.
2) Short-term memory
Our short term memory have only limited storage. The information must be repeated in order to get information to long-term memory.
3) Long-term memory
Our long term memory is unlimited and have large storage. If the information is not being used for long term time, the information will be lost.

WAY TO IMPROVE MEMORY STRATEGIES.

  • Massed practice vs spaced practice
  • Break reading material down
  • Rehearsal
  • Elaboration strategies

THE REASON HOW FORGETTING COULD OCCUR

  • Did not pay attention to the information
  • Did not understand the information
  • Cramming ( last minute study)
  • Did not have good strategies
  • Interference ( having 2 exams on the same day especially if the subject if the subjects are closely related for example psychology & counselling )
  • Test anxiety ( negative thoughts about oneself , did not prepare well for the test )

STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE CONCENTRATION

  • CONCENTRATION – focusing your attention on what you are doing.
Causes of poor concentration
  • Lack of attention
  •  Lack of interest
  •  Lack of motivation
  •  Distraction from others
  •  Uncomfortable environment
  •  Physiological matters – illness, tiredness
  •  Psychological matters – personal problems, worries, anxieties
1. Use motivational and organizational strategies – create interest in the work, develop a positive attitude toward you work, use goal setting strategies, use time-management strategies
2. Create a positive learning environment – find a better location, reduce multitasking,
minimize distractions
3. Deal with internal distractions – deal with personal problems, deal with competing
activities,
4. Use active learning strategies (as discussed in improving memory)
5. Match your learning style to the task
6. Monitor your concentration
